I installed Kubuntu from a USB Stick (you can dd the iso file to an usb-stick and then boot from it, very userfriendly!) http://www.kubuntu.org
There is also a userfriendly package manager included. http://www.packagekit.org With this package manager it was the first time, that I installed very easy the fpc and lazarus packages.
