I managed to get the thing to compile and I think I understand why it failed in the first place. I changed my compile options to work in "Delphi compatibility" mode, I think there's a difference in string handling and text/file handling between the two. Unfortunately I have no idea how to copy-paste my code from the Putty SSH window into the Outlook mailer, so I can't easily copy-paste the code...
