I use NEdit for nearly all my editing. On the surface, it looks and acts almost like windows notepad.
But under the hood, it has lots of powerful features, most of them specific to programming. Things like syntax highlighting, macro recorder and interpretor, shell commands, text filtering from external programs, regex search and replace, etc, etc, etc...
