Keep in mind that running many branches long term will only increase the
amount of management to keep them in sync, makes it more difficult to merge
the finished results back etc.
These branches could be trashed again, when they proved useless or after
merge into trunk. I could create separate projects in another repository
as well, but these could not be merged back so easily.
Focus your efforts, on as small phases as possible.
