What about some stats? X logos submitted by X different people, X emails from X people discussing the logos, X total people voted... all over the course of a week or two.
Might underscore how active the list and the interest from the community is right now. Personally, I agree that there's no need to mention any negatives about a logo. If you want to show active discussion you can always link back to a search of the mailing archives if someone wants the details.
