I think submit logo is like submit code...so no compensation should be planed. One different thing is that a contest where various people are making the same work and only one is selected, means that maybe you are working for nothing, in opposite to submit code to the project that normaly will be used and be part of the framework. But this is in the end open source and if you submit a proposal is because you love the project and you want the best for it. Your compensation is your contribution and that the success of the Apache Flex project is your success since you would continue using this framework in the long time...
