I'm going through another batch of scans right now and was wondering what is the collected wisdom about scanning into colour spaces.
I have an LS-4000 scanner and no longer use NikonScan to do my scanning. Instead I'm using VueScan. In VueScan we can set the output colour space and *my understanding* of colour space is that it is better to scan into a 'bigger' colour space than what you can generate so that at least you don't have any clipping of colours when you do your editing and colour adjustments. So I'm scanning using ProPhoto RGB as the output for VueScan. I'm using Photoshop to do my colour adjustments. **The thing is that the colours just look like they need a bit more 'punch' afterwards, a bit more saturation. But this is to be expected since it's a huge colour space and the monitor has a limited gamut, even with ColorSync etc. Or is it?** Should I get Photoshop to convert to another profile on opening the file? Or leave it as is and only convert when I need to output to a printing device (be it Frontier, InkJet or whatnot) Suggestions?
