Myles, You're right, the colors would not be affected, but, as I said before, I believe the exposure times could be affected, if the black/white strip is of significant size. I don't know what "significant size" is exactly, that' why I suggested you look for clipping in highlights and loss of shadow details in the scans to see if it is a real problem.
