Bob, Technically you may be correct; but no matter how you cut it the file is ultimately converted to an 8-bit file in the end in order for use by the current models of inkjet and other printers. It makes no difference if the conversion is manual or automatic; moreover, there are certain tools and features of Photoshop, which the writer claims to possibly utilize, that will only work on 8-bit files thereby necessitating a conversion from 16-bit to 8-bit in Photoshop in order to use those tools and features.

Bruce Fraser points this out in RWP. Bob Frost. ----- Original Message ----- From: "LAURIE SOLOMON" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Maybe; but what are you printing or outputing to? Most of the output devices including printers will not accept 16-bit or hi-bit input files, which means that you would have to convert the files to 8-bit in the end before sending them to the printer; how does this impact on the quality of the file so as to make it different from what you would have gotten using an 8-bit scan or even a hi-bit scan that was converted to 8-bit when working on it in Photoshop using the Photoshop tools that will only work 8-bit along with those that do work with 16-bit as well as 8-bit? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Unsubscribe by mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], with 'unsubscribe filmscanners' or 'unsubscribe filmscanners_digest' (as appropriate) in the message title or body ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe by mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], with 'unsubscribe filmscanners' or 'unsubscribe filmscanners_digest' (as appropriate) in the message title or body
