Hi Les Sounds like what happened to mine about a one ago.
With a bit of bravado (and not much to lose), I took the cover off (4 small screws on rear) and fired it up and watched. Everything seemed to function normally except the sled was stuck at it's limit. I gave it a solid push (on the motor if I remember correctly) and hey presto it's been working fine ever since! It appeared (in highly technical language) that the sled had slipped off the end of the long worm drive that pulls if along. I was pretty happy - saving a potentially expensive bill, and being able to finish the important rush job I was doing. Be very careful when plugging it back in and firing it up without the covers on though! My trusty LS-2000 appears to have given up the proverbial ghost. At power-on, it makes a high-pitched hum (very different from the usual turn-on sound), the LED flashes rapidly and then lights steadily, but the scanner will not function. It sounds to me as if the sled, or the train which drives it, is stuck. Anyone know what the repair cost is on one of these? Is replacement a better option? If the latter, any thoughts on the best unit to replace it?
