Actually, it does not have to be external to the system, although many - especially SCSI RAID arrays - are. My motherboard has an EIDE RAID array that is an integral part of the motherboard and its BIOS. Those which are external have cooling dsigned for hotter drives ( if by exyternal we are talking about being housed in a case separate from the system case) as you suggest; otherwise they do not. However, one can always add larger power supplies and additional case and drive fans if needed. > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Whidbey Net > Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2002 12:43 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [filmscanners] RE: Re:Computer size(New Topic) > > > >If you use 15000 RPM drives, you soon have to start worrying > about keeping > the > whole machine from melting down in its own heat. > > Actually, Anthony, a "disk array" is external to the system > and has cooling > designed for the hotter drives. > > >Wouldn't it be cheaper to just add a raft of RAM instead of > an SCSI disk > array? > > I did say "to carry disk performance to the max."
