Remind us what scanner you have, Ken? Bear in mind that dark bits on Velvia are considered the evil of the filmscanning world - so dark that lots of scanners simply can't see properly! Multi-pass scanning with Vuescan in combination with the "Long exposure" pass, with my Nikon LS40, didn't improve the scanner's ability to see into the black. Velvia is definitely just a little too much for the LS40... (As is Kodachrome.)
