Thanks Bob, for your reply. What are my color spaces set at? I use Bruce RGB for both, since that is what I use in PS, and I can't find my monitor profile in the list. It doesn't make any difference with my problem, what ever space I use.
I tried your suggestions, and many variations. What I found was that if I use media: Image, the clipping comes within range, but still is not adjustable down using the exposure lock. It doesn't matter what balance I use, None, White and Neutral give the same result. Using the setting, however, prevents me from using the film terms, which is the reason I like to use vuescan. The colors are similar to using NS 2.5; not good. The cause of the problem could be the film terms themselves, but it could be brought under control if I could get the eposure lock to decrease exposure, as I can when using NS.
