One of the advantages to using PhotoShop Elements (btw I use PS 6 but gave my daughter PSE) is that practically all of the commands are the same as those used in the full Photoshop. So if your strapped for cash it is a good start, not sure but it also might give you a discounted upgrade path at a later date. I believe you can download a demo of PS Elements from Adobe. Photoshop has a long learning curve, if you go with Elements you will be getting a leg up on that learning curve. Pretty sure that Elements has the save to web feature that is now in in PS 6 this will give you a dual screen display of your file before and after compresion is applied. Visual is the way to go for jpg going to the web.
