No, I see little benefit of it, because if there are multiple subtitle pages, then they will get mixed up. It is less error prone if the user specifies the page. If somebody thinks it is useful, it can be added relatively easily.

(Did you ever test ffplay with libzvbi on a transport stream
with teletext but no other subtitles?)
