It seems like a good idea, although I have not given it much list. But as it is, Josh and you are proposing patches that go in different directions. Please coordinate with him. We do not want to go back and forth between implementations, nor maintain subtly different implementations. There is no rush to implement this, and therefore it can be done properly.
