Nit: add an empty line after the "duration" directive, so that it's
clear that it applies to the first file.
I agree. Have also added an empty line after the header line in the new
patch.

New patch attached. It also replaces the 'file 2.wav' in the second
example which didn't actually work in safe mode with 'subdir/file-2.wav'
(thanks to Paul B Mahol for noticing it).
