Some users do run checkasm. More broadly, the point is not limited to people manually running checkasm itself. Users, developers, distributors, and CI all interact with FFmpeg's test and debugging infrastructure, and users do report regressions and test failures. When a regression cannot be reproduced locally, we also regularly ask reporters to bisect.
