I could if someone opens corresponding issues on trac to track these

Without issues on trac its easy that there are misunderstandings what
somneone intends to do before release and what not.
Please open blocking issues if you intend to do something before
branching / release. And close them once your work is finished.

Rewriting code that one doesnt understand is a sign that one is less smart
than the original author, trying to rewrite it will not make it better.
