I've updated the link in patch 1 to point to this thread instead of your original post.
I've heavily rewritten "jargon.md" and renamed it to "context.md", reflecting how it's more important than I previously realised. I think it's safe to leave it in markdown format in doc/ now - it shouldn't open the floodgates to more files, and that seems like a safe enough bridge to cross when we come to it.
