Luckily there is the equivalent (see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/medfound/extended-color-information#color-space-in-media-types) DXVA2_ExtendedFormat struct which is defined in the MinGW headers. So i have switched to using that (well documented whats going on), seems to work fine.
