Bill, thanks, Why is it when someone points out something, it then becomes
obvious and clear!
I had added a comment in the jail.conf, you were spot on.
I have removed the comment and restarted fail2ban service. All is well.

Did you change a filter? Post it.
this seems to happen every time someone tried to connect, before it shows the
warning and then the ban.
Connect how? IMAP, POP3, SMTP?
