-------------------------------------

Lot 163
#28945
John Jarvis Bisset, (Major-General, C.B.)
SPORT AND WAR
Or Recollections Of Fighting And Hunting In South Africa From The
Years 1834 To 1867. With A Narrative Of H.R.H. The Duke Of
Edinburgh's Visit To The Cape.

(Sir) John Jarvis (1819-1894) arrived in South Africa as a child
in 1820 and, having been commissioned as an ensign in the Cape
Mounted Riflemen in 1835, fought in the 6th, 7th, and 8th Frontier
Wars. He became Commanding officer of his regiment and went on to
be acting Governor of Natal in 1865 and also Colonel of the 106th
Regiment of Foot. (after Wikipedia).

Lot 164
#28937
George McCall Theal
HISTORY OF AFRICA SOUTH OF THE ZAMBESI.
11 Volumes Star Edition.
Published: George Allen & Unwin, London, Variously 1919-1927

The 'Star Edition', with all volumes running consecutively
according to the number of stars on the spine, ensures a matching
set of these volumes. Since they were editited and revised
numerous times during Theal's lifetime, trying to match a set
from purchases of odd volumes will almost certainly result in a
disjointed narrative.
