It is unfortunate when Mma Ramotswe's newest client
is the big-shot owner of the ailing Kalahari Swoopers
that one thing lady detectives know very little about
is football. When the glamorous Violet Sephotho sets
her sights on Mma Makutsi's unsuspecting fiance it
becomes clear that men do not recognise a ruthless
Jezebel even when she is bouncing up and down on the
best bed in the Double Comfort Furniture Shop. In her
attempt to find a traitor on Mr Football's team, Mma
Ramotswe ventures into new territory, drinks tea in
unfamiliar kitchens and learns to trust in the
observational powers of small boys. As wise and
warm-hearted as his heroine, Alexander McCall Smith
reminds us that we must dig deep to uncover the
      goodness of the human heart.

Author's investigation into the 'canned' hunting
industry in Southern Africa where lions are bred in
captivity for the sole purpose of being killed under
unnatural conditions by high-paying trophy 'hunters'.
In doing so he exposes the myth of South Africa's
conservation image and the sale of hunting as a
necessary integral part of conservation. Trophy
hunting is seen as a relic of the colonial past where
'conservation' means exploitation of wild animals and
what remains of their habitat for profit. An African
Renaissance must include a rebirth of
environmentalism on the continent and a reforging of
spiritual empathy for wild animals seeing a
dismantling of colonial hunting policies. Other
titles by this author in stock.

George Adamson was murdered by Somali bandits (near
his camp in Kora National Park when he went to the

From Czech: "Rainsford's "safari" trekked through
British East Africa where a variety of game was
bagged. After crossing the Mau Escarpment, the
author’s party hunted lion, buffalo, and rhino,
then elephant near Mt. Elgon. Later, rhino and
buffalo were taken near the Guaso Nyiro. He remarks
that shooting elephant with a .500 or .577 is
outmoded - a .256 Mannlicher or .275 Mauser will do
perfectly well. There are plenty of big-game hunting
      adventures throughout".

From Czech: "In his second work on photographing
and hunting game in East Africa, Schillings captures
the essence of the African landscape and its people
with his brilliant, early snapshots. The first volume
concerns a general view of the region, with a brief
history of the encroachment of civilization on the
African wild and an interesting, if oddly placed
chapter on sport and nature in Germany. The second
volume includes chapters on hunting elephant, rhino,
and lion with additional sport after leopard, eland
and other antelope. There is a remarkable photograph
of the extraordinary pair of elephant tusks weighing
      a combined 450 pounds".

                                                            £150.00
From Czech: "A wide-ranging work that discusses
everything from the colouration of African big game
to the extinction of some species in South Africa.
There are plenty of big-game hunting episodes, which
Selous uses to accent his chapters on Cape buffalo,
black rhinoceros, and lion, among others. Written at
a time when there was a noticeable depletion of the
great game herds, he becomes almost lyrical in his
longing for the old days: "but no man will ever again
sit by a camp fire near one of the little
rivers....eating prime pieces of fat elephant's
heart, roasted on a forked stick, nor watch the great
white rhinoceroses coming to drink just before dark
nor lie and listen to herd after herd of elephants
drinking and bathing in the river near the camp".

From Czech: "Guillaume Vasse (even his name was
translated) sailed to Mozambique in 1904 to enjoy an
extended hunting trip. Proceeding into the foothills
of the Drakensberg Range, he collected klipspringer
and bushbuck, then traveled to the Zombi River where
he bagged sable. Near the Pungwi River, Vasse hunted
eland, hartebeest, waterbuck, and buffalo. Numerous
leopard were bagged in the region, as well as
elephant. Continuing on to the Sungwi River, he also
collected a number of lion. Entering the Zambezi,
