Hello, We list below some items that we have on auction this week.
The first item is not Africana but is such an unusual item that we must mention it separately here. Stubbs HISTORY OF THE BENGAL ARTILLERY is a monumental 3-volume work on colonial military Indian history from the 18thC & 19thC. Amazingly the three volumes offered were the author's own and are filled with notes, annotations, corrections, & additions in his own hand. Even his own bookplate is there. The handwriting has been verified by the British Library. We have traced one copy, at the Oxford Library, which has been digitised and can be read online. This copy shows none of the corrections etc. and is thus the same printing as the copy that we have. The copy at the British Library is a later printing and incorporates many if not most of these changes. This is a really unusual find. It has historical value far beyond the print on its pages. Both from military and genealogical perspectives it is a most interesting work. Enough, more formal descriptions of the 5 items offered on this auction follow. Full descriptions with images and reserve pricing are given on the auction site. http://www.antiquarianauctions.com The auction commenced last Thursday and finishes this Thursday at 18.30 local time. You need to register to take part in the auction and either myself or antiquarianauctions.com will be pleased to assist you with the bidding process - which is actually simplicity in itself. If you can log in, you can bid. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lot 1. Stubbs, Major-General Francis W.
