Nice try, I believe I did get that suggestion before - here is the result:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] darklord]$ mv .Mail-old/ /dev/null
mv: cannot overwrite non-directory `/dev/null' with directory `.Mail-old/'
ditto as root. :-)
