Further info.  Apparently the mobo manual is wrong.  It is not
speaker/line level outputs.  It's line level only.  So the sound was
probably working just fine all along, it just didn't work until I
plugged in amplified speakers instead of just raw speakers.

The next stage of the problem is that the mobo seems to have interrupt
related problems.  Mouse jumps randomly to the top corner of the screen.
Will be flashing the BIOS and resetting the BIOS and changing memory and
anything else that I think could affect it.  The sound is affected
because it has random pops while playing.
