Stef,

Why don't you try going to http://www.opensound.com/ and downloading the
trial version of their commercial OSS sound drivers. If it works OK for
you, then you might consider purchasing a permanent license from them
like I did. I found great inconsistencies in performance and
functionality across all the sound drivers that are supplied with the
kernel. As a result, it affected how well many of my friends could make
recordings of stuff they were playing back. I could do it with my
aureal drivers, but many could not duplicate my results. I have known
about 4front for a long time and gave them a try.

4Front OSS drivers provide a consistently performing interface across a
wide range of sound cards. The feature that really sold me was the
loopback recording functionality. This allows just about anyone to use
their soundcard to record incoming sound streams.

The support from 4front is really good. Even if youre using the trial
license, they will make sure that it gets working for you if you
encounter any problems.

Make a back up of your modules.conf if you don't already have one before
you install.
