soundwrapper is the same thing, but for desktop environments that don't
load ARTS, which is a KDE-only thing. soundwrapper works with esd and
alsa in my experience, though nothing but artswrapper can make Quake3
play on my 815-based laptop, and even then the experience really sucks
:-( Hopefully my next employer will have the foresight to equip my
laptop with a high-powered video chipset...
