Sometime in November, i think, doing a mandrakeupdate, i remember it said
that it had updated my kernel on LM8.1 to kernel-2.4.8-43.lmdk.

I've had to reboot, first time since i turned the machine on way back last
year.

I got a lilo warning about bios memory being too big.

looking in the /boot directory the vmlinuz-2.4.8-43.lmdk file, which lilo
was pointing to had a file size of 0.

I've managed to get the system up and running under kernel-2.4.8-23 that was
on the lm8.1 install disks but i'm having can't load iptables, wrong
versions. And it says it can't find files in /proc.

I've looked for kernel-2.4.8-43.lmdk but can't find a download on the
mandrake site. they have a link for kernel-2.4.8-34.lmdk, but that link
seems to be dead.

I've tried to update with LM9 but complains about insufficient disk space,
which i don't really want to modify. The system has only to last another 3
or 4 weeks. Then i can wipe it and start again.

Does anybody know what kernel i can install on this lm8.1 machine.

Many thanks

Ken

ps does anybody know where or how to change the scsi card driver, it insists
on booting up saying i have a different card than i actually have. And then
it complains about not being able to mount the scsi drives which are there.
I have to go into harddrake after boot to change the module but it doesn't
remember on the next boot.
