Jack, thanks for the advice. I am not at the machine right now but as far as I remember I did allow all services on shorewall, thus kind of disabling the firewall. It didn't work then. Should I uninstall shorewall or do you think just "service shorewall stop" would do? I'll try tomorrow morning and let you all know.
