hans,

That is indeed very strange because to date I've never experienced those 
troubles with any Mandrake distribution. out of sheer curiosity what is 
there different in .52 that you don't get in .27? I've even installed 
(upgraded) from the .27 version that comes with Mandrake 8.2 to the 
latest development version of MySQL without any troubles.
