Harold,

  Since I don't know how you login normally (from the command line
or graphical)  I'll give you both.

1.  From the command line type startkde3
2.  From Xtart. Download the latest and use it.  
3.  From Graphical.  Login to kde2 and open the control panel
    Choose the admin button in the bottom right and when prompted 
    give your root passwd. 
    click on System
    choose Login Manager
    Click on the Sessions tab.
    Towards the bottom you will see Session types and a box
    labeled New Type
    Add KDE3 *all caps* and click add.new button.
    Click Apply 
    Logout of kde and when your return to the login manager KDE3
    should now be an option in the list.

Choose KDE3 and enjoy.
