Never a high performer, and certainly lacking some bells and whistles--at least they are linux-friendly and less buggy than most.
Crap hardware is the result of intense competition for diminishing bucks. The market is cost-sensitive and becoming more so, and the race to the marketplace prohibits extensive testing, (and most folk have software that masks the bugs of the hardware).
