I don't mean to stick up for windows on a linux list, but this is the biggest load of bullshit i've ever seen. I mean hell, I'm not a windows fan myself, but you should get your facts straight before you start bashing an operating system. What version of XP were you using?? I'd say from your description Windows XP HOME. NOT Professional. If you're using professional, you'll find that you can do whatever the hell you want to the drivers. The dog can easily be taken off, by right-clicking and saying disable. The stupid little hints are explaining not to you, but to the person who has just gone out and bought a computer for the first time in their entire lives, and have no idea where to start. Thus, the HOME edition. You can't look at XP home and complain because it doesn't give you the functionality of Linux. That's just stupid. It's not what it was intended for. If you want a decent (yes decent), stable operating system, that people KNOW HOW TO USE, go Windows XP PRO, and you'll have no trouble.
(I run Mandrake by the way, I'm not a windows fan, but that just shits me). Sorry if anyone was offended by the minimal swearing.
