Just had an idea and tried the Organizer in datasources. It says: cannot load component libodbc.so or it is corrupted.
I had an earlier OO install from rpm but removed it and then installed 1.0 from openoffice.org tarball. Should I do a reinstall of 1.0 or what...? Leaving the server directive empty didn't work either. I assume because of what is stated above.
