heh i'll save you all the trouble.

last couple months off & On i've looked all over the net, asked linux
gurus, etc for help on this. I too have a mouse with "xtra" buttons.

Hell if you look on your system, theres a mouse info page *don't ask
where i cant' remember atm*. In it you'll find instructions on how to
use your extra buttons. !!WARNING!! My comp wouldn't boot after i
screwed around with them.

I could get as far as console mode. Thats it.

so... I had to use the default XF86Config file again. there is a site
for this stuff, guy named Colin Naboulas * i believe *, but the majority
of the stuff on it is useless.

Xwindow seems to only be mapped for 5 buttons. Its a hardcoded limit
for some reason. Thus our 6-8 button mice work as 3 buttons plus a
scroll wheel *up & down are button 4&5 respectively*.

If you manage to find more info & some better instructions on how to
fool X into using those buttons, by all means post them.

I have been fighting with this for a long time now tho *bout a good 6
months at least* and have had zero success.

Ironically, I can get my internet keyboards extra buttons to work fine
with some clever scripting.
