It's hdc, 3rd HDD. It's a 60 Gig Western Digital. My 1997 BIOS (sorry, no further patches available) doesn't know what to do with it, so have set it in BIOS / CMOS (IDE secondary master) to None. Then, Window~1 95,
2000 & XP can see and deal with it fine. Until now, so could Linux. On Mdk 8.1, and RHat 7.1, either during install would pause and time out when trying to get partitions etc., and would then proceed with install; then, after install, on boot, either would again pause & then time out when trying to get partition info on this HDD; then, would skip it, go on and boot fine. In fact, except for /boot, all of my Linux install & partitions are on this 3rd HDD. /boot is on hda, a 4 Gig drive. After prior installs, on booting, the system would, after timing out for getting partition info from this HDD, later time out with a message as to trying to get IRQ from this partition (sorry, don't have exact language -- IIRC, something to effect of error 2.5, 1.58 or somesuch); then, after time out, would again proceed to finish booting. Now, neither Mdk 8.2 ( nor RHat 7.3 ) will even install. The install routine hangs at trying to get partition info for hdc, and just won't do anything further. It_just_sits_there. No escape, Enter nor other keys work. Ideas? TIA P.S: No, the HDD is OK. Late last night, I reinstalled Mdk 8.0, which installed, boots OK, and functions exactly as described above from prior experience. Window~1 can still see, and write from/ to, this HDD and all FAT 32 partitions on it, just fine. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
