I've done quiet a bit of websearching, going through the www.mandrake*.com
websites and the archives for this list but haven't really found any references
to rebuilding Mandrake totally from scratch using SRPMS. I started with taking
notice on how Gentoo creates its initial bootstrap image that allows one to
start compiling the base system needed to get a first boot. So far I've
rebuilt from SRPM gettext, binutils, gcc-*, and glibc (After modifying options
in /usr/lib/rpm/*). I've had to overcome several problems as each SRPM
rebuilds (--rebuild often fails due to not finding man pages or other files
missing).
Has anyone else looked at doing something along the same lines that I've
described? I'm really looking for a better, more automated process of compiling
a package from SRPM that takes into account dependencies. (ie if I want to
rebuild KDE, it will start walking the dependency tree from KDE back to the
Qt and eventually the root of the tree most likely glibc.)
I've been talking with several Debian users and apt seems to support this
functionality with "apt-get build-dep package_name". I've also look at using
urpmi, but I didn't find an option to build/install a package from SRPM.
