Hmmm, I do believe you would benefit from scoring a document called the 
users manual for Final Word.  Final Word II was sold to Borland and 
became Sprint and failed with many other text systems at the time, but 
Final Word originally grew out of MINCE and SCRIBBLE.  Scribble was a 
TeX-like thing and MINCE is a recursive acronym (Mince Is Not Complete 
Emacs).  In MINCE or EMACS it is possible to set up many complex 
procedures, but never was it demonstrated better than in that manual. 
 Of course a macro processor of some general form, even something like 
ML/1, would provide what you seek as well.  You would of course have to 
define your own macros.  And Emacs-Lisp could do the job, too, if you 
want to learn it.  As usual, the one with all the power sacrifices some 
ease of learning and use for the flexibility.
