KDE3.0 had their Beta1 release on Decemeber 19. Since then there are lots of bug reports and different issues to get it working right. It's now a little over a month later for a very major upgrade and it would be very difficult to address all the problems. Sure, you'll get the newer features of KDE3.0, but you'll also lose stability and increase frustration. To delay 8.2 until KDE3.0 is stable may mean extra months of waiting. While this happens, other improvements such as gcc, glibc, XFree86, improved filesystem support, improved updaters, etc. will be left waiting. Anyhow, I think Mandrake addresses this problem by providing the Cooker branch. If you want cutting-edge, less tested stuff, then you can install these packages. If you don't want to download them, take a look at one of the GPL Linux distributors that offer the Cooker CDs for under $5. > It would be ashame that we would have to wait for MDK 8.3 in September (or > somewhere around there), to finally get KDE 3.0 installed with Mandrake 8.3... > > As someone on another list I'm on put it - "Hey not every body wants to do > a 110 Mb download and then spend a weekend sorting things out." > > -Tim > >
