KDE3.0 had their Beta1 release on Decemeber 19. Since then there are
lots of bug reports and different issues to get it working right.  It's
now a little over a month later for a very major upgrade and it would be
very difficult to address all the problems. Sure, you'll get the newer
features of KDE3.0, but you'll also lose stability and increase
frustration. To delay 8.2 until KDE3.0 is stable may mean extra months
of waiting. While this happens, other improvements such as gcc, glibc,
XFree86, improved filesystem support, improved updaters, etc. will be
left waiting. Anyhow, I think Mandrake addresses this problem by
providing the Cooker branch. If you want cutting-edge, less tested
stuff, then you can install these packages. If you don't want to
download them, take a look at one of the GPL Linux distributors that
offer the Cooker CDs for under $5.
