whats the problem? See the manual at the option "-j", so you have to add a 
journal to all ext2 partitions, so for example do it with the commando

tune2fs -j /dev/hda1

if /dev/hda1 is an ext2 partition, see your /etc/fstab...

then you have to set up a kernel with ext3 support, it is better to compile 
the kernel with ext3 within, not as a module, because so you have ext3 
support for your / partition, too. The ext3 driver as a module, the / 
partition behaves like ext2, also if you boot with an initial ramdisk.
