I've got supermount working well on ML8.1. I did it by installing a 2.4.13 kernel, which also requires an iptable and initscripts upgrade. Then run 'supermount -i enable', followed with 'mount -a'. I'm now using a 2.4.16 kernel, which involved upgrading iptables and initscripts again, plus setup, and lm_sensors. Supermount still works flawlessly for my cd-rw, cdrom, and floppy.
