What people dont relize is that not only can you download a complete OS for
free, the package also comes with a ton of free applications and servers for
free.

Try finding M$ Exchange in windows NT for free. Hows about M$ IIS for free!
Maybe there including MS SQL Server for free. NOT! Whats the going price
these days for Office XP Try $385.00 on Ebay. Last time I checked Star
Office
was free! The only thing that even comes close to being a must have M$
application is Outlook. When Revolution finally gets up to speed it will
replace that.

I get these comments from NT admins that they dont pay for the licenses for
M$ products so there software is free. Well dont say that too loud as the M$
Police will pay you a visit and shut ya down.

The main reason more companies or individuals dont use Linux or Linux apps
is
due to fear! If someone would sit down with them and show them how it works
and what it looks like they would easily change over.

I have personally changed the minds of many companies. When you mention free
server software and applications they wake up and smell the coffee. With the
economy the way it currently is more and more companies need to look into
Linux as their Server OS of choice.

Let me ask you this.

How much would it cost for M$ software for a medium size company using say 4
servers listed below

1. Exchange email + the per seat software for the email.
2. IIS webserver
3. DNS
4. NT or XP File server
Remember you must install NT or XP before you install any of the full blown
apps to make each server except the file server.

Now how much would it cost for the same servers running linux.

1. Sendmail or postfix server = FREE
2. Apache = FREE
3 Bind 8 cacheing server = FREE
4. Samba File server = FREE

Total = FREE

Hows about how much it would cost to setup say 100 pc's for that company
running say XP pro and Office XP pro. First you neeed to make sure the
hardware will work with XP. Have you read all the problems folks are having
with older hardware? Companies dont need the latest 1gig plus mhz computers
for the average worker PII's are just fine. If your runing a cad house then
yes the latest computers would be great. But were talking the average size
company. so your looking at over 600.00 per computer for software thats
60,000.00 wow!!! I can save ya 60,000.00 in software costs if youll give me
a
1% bonus for the savings. It will cost ya nada, zero, zip and will run on
older hardware.

Remember it isnt that the Linux community needs to develop a application
that
M$ doesnt have. There are other reasons to go with Linux mainly cost. Try
getting support for XP. Linux has how many developers or Linux Guru's that
will help ya out for free and qwickly. This disscusion board has helped me
out a ton and qwickly. Get that for M$ crap.
