Ahah, I found the solution. It turned out the problem was that KNewsticker
depends on $KDE_MENU_ROOT/System/kfmclient_html.applnk existing. However, in
mdk, the System menu doesn't exist, although oddly enough there is a seperate
(backup?) applnk folder that does have the correct stuff in it.
Anyway, by copying the kfmclient applnk and creating a System folder in the
correct applnk-mdk folder, all is now well - thanks to your strace tip. :-)
