I just set one of these up, and it is fairly accurate to say it worked right 
out of the box.  I did need to introduce the mouse to the basestation.  It 
didn't work in W2K either untill I did that.  Press the "connect" button on 
the base and then, within 3 seconds (ymmv) press the connect button on the 
mouse (under the mouse, you will need a pen of other sharp device).  I had a 
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer that died, and after syncing the RF the 
Logitech slipped right in with no modifications needed.
