here are a couple questions so i can get troubleshooting information.
what does an ifconfig output?
[root@localhost root]# ifconfig

at the command line as root type 'ifconfig'.
is eth0 listed in that ifconfig output?
No, just lo
if it is not, type 'ifup eth0'. let me know what the output is
[root@localhost root]# ifup eth0
Determining IP information for eth0... failed.
if it is, type 'ifdown eth0' then 'ifup eth0'. let me know what the
output is.
[root@localhost root]# ifdown eth0
[root@localhost root]#
Apparently, nothing happened on that one.
I installed iptraf just to see if anything was being sent out on eth0 when I
typed ifup eth0, and this is what it had to say:
Non-IP (0x0) (576 bytes) from 000102419bd4 to ffffffffffff on eth0
Non-IP (0x0) (576 bytes) from 000102419bd4 to ffffffffffff on eth0
