Questions? How fast is your computer (cpu) and have you installed the cd-writer as recommended by Plextor? They recommend that the Plextor be installed as the master drive, say as Hdc. I've seen examples of cd-writers failing to get the recommended speeds when set as slaves, DMA not set for the drive, and when using inferior (not recommended) media type or copying from a slow drive or from a cd-rom drive attached as a slave to the cd-writer. OK, 500mhz Celeron, and no, its installed as the slave. I tried to install it the way they wanted, but my Compaq didn't like it a bit... What does cdrecord -prcap dev=0,0,0 tell you? I've been told the model CD-RW picks its own speed...guess I could just use a gui when I want to write faster than it wants to...I really didn't buy this CD-RW for its speed, but rather for the fact that it works flawlessly in linux; the polar opposite of the LG that came stock with my Compaq.
