Thanks to everyone for these answers - I think I like the Partition Image program the best. It has only beta support for XFS but it seems like it has the most promise. I didn't even think about the 'dd' command; I use it all the time when I update lilo for anything to copy my bootimage so I can use the windows 2000 bootloader to boot linux. thanks again, Mike
