Excuse me.
But the problem with the binary may not be kernel related. It could well 
be a library problem. There were several library changes between 7.2, 
and 8.0
If you could track down which library you need, you may be able to 
install the old(er) one, and the app may run.

Could also take a combination of the old(er) library, and a 2.2 kernel. 
I think with some hacking, you may be able to get it to run.
